I read about ‘damp January’, an alternative to ‘dry January’ in the Washington Post of all places. Basically it’s a cutback on drinking for the month, maybe in terms of amount or maybe in terms of more days off per week. So, maybe just go hard at BoPo night and then recover for 6 days. I ended up going a different route and bowling as Karl Fungus. The results were predictable.
The pattern is rough. Games are taking longer due to the total lack of strikes. We only had four people average over 190 (shout out to El Mango!). We all know what we’re getting into with late games…they are late. If you’re early really try your best to go fast, be ready for your shot. If you’re late, really try your best to embrace your fate.
Thursday A
Game of the week – GOB (-3) vs Off Constantly
This is a true BoPo throwback. Invisible Hand’s crew are the heavy favorites to win Thursday A this season but they will also challenge anyone who thinks they can outdrink them. I expect Master Splinter to be walking off strikes and doing splits and pointing at the crowd all night (while Seatown leads the team in average). Beer Hunter is a little miffed that his team wasn’t in the preseason party rankings (though after Tuesday I’d say the door is wide open). Dry January really going to have a few teams starting in the party hole. Get Damp or die trying! Nuber and the gang love the party pit, and can stare straight at their 2008 banner all night for inspiration. These lane conditions are going to lead to lots of upsets, but i’m not ready to say it’ll happen here. I’ll probably do shots with both teams tonight while ‘managing’.
Other games:
Leisure Rolls (-1) vs TMX
Guacabowle (-7) vs TDYOB
Red, White and Brew (-9) vs Tatts and Tits
Legion of Boom (-5) vs BUI
Hexy’s Hooligans (-1) vs Sultans
Thursday B
Game of the Week:
Lion’s Den (-3) vs Party Mix
We’re staying in the Pit for both Games of the Week. The Lion’s moved down to B last year, dominated, but decided to stay. Party Mix had what I believe was their first winning record and looked like they had something to build on for this year. This could be a big tiebreaker for late in the season. A Party Mix win would be a big statement, and Big Party like Big Statements.
Other Games:
Lesbowlians (-3) vs Pinny Candy
Y&B 2 (-1) vs Pin Assassins
Strike City (-1) vs Happy Hands
ICBING (-1) vs Bowled & Beautiful
The Kids (-3) vs Major Asshole Expansion
