Here we are again on the verge of anther season. Things are a little different this year having opened another bowling alley, and our entire Bayside crew having busted their asses for the last 40 days. It’s been grueling and exciting, but mostly just makes me look forward even more to the start of another BoPo year. It’s a reminder of why I opened a bowling alley in the first place – a clubhouse for my league and friends. It’s grounding, it’s relaxing, it’s rejuvenating. Hope everyone appreciates their time on the lanes with friends as much as I do. Here are some quick requests to you all:
- Be excellent to the staff, BoPo nights are meant to be a fun night for them as well.
- Be the party you hope to see – don’t wait for others to bring the energy.
- Be conscientious of your game length if you’re early – you can hang and party all night after your game (count me in), just get the folks after you on the lanes in a timely manner.
- If you’re new to the league, just remember we’re not really that interested in how well you knock pins over, we’re far more interested in people who bring something to the scene. You don’t have to be loud or crazy, just be nice, make sure your teammates, opponents and staff leave thinking ‘that was an awesome night’.
- Please leave interpersonal drama at the door. As Danny Glover said while playing the role of a man far younger than I am now “I’m getting too old for this shit”
I’ll be bringing back writeups and predictions to a limited extent this year. I’ll have numerical lines for every game, and write up one game from each division for each night. I’ll only be tracking standings and party rankings. Flatline is stepping up again to do stats for the stat watchers, so thank him for all that work.
So, let’s jump into it. Tuesday predictions:
Tuesday A
Game of the Week: Saucy Posse (-7) vs Stranger Pins: Sometimes I like to take credit for juicy matchups in the schedule, but generally I’m just cramming numbers into a spreadsheet and seeing what happens. I did not mean to do this to Stranger Pins. I am very excited about what they did – they won B and decided to take the next step and jump into the grind of Tuesday A. Unfortunately the old schedule generator matched them up against league juggernaut and defending BoPo champ Saucy Posse for an opener. We all know Saucy can win any year, led by professional bowler Nut Sauce and GM’ed by professional drinker Walter. The silver lining for Stranger Pins is that sometimes it takes the Posse a few weeks to warm up, and we’re all (excpet for Doc Moose, Garlic, Niner and a handful of other gym rats) rolling into the new season blind. I think the pins grab 2 points early, steal one in game 2 as well, but ultimately the Posse just grinds them down for an 11-4 win.
Other matchups:
Waste Management (-3) vs BEER: Trash built himself a hell of a team. Newcomers Colonel Sanders and Linda (not sure her BoPo name) are studs, and Mr. Florida and Sonny D roll motivated. BEER lost some key pieces but will have the shiniest pants and a little addition that goes by the name The Funstigator.
Skol (-3) vs S.O.D.: This is a weird one. S.O.D. was the last A team to win a game last year I think, finished 2-10 then made a run to the finals. Skol brought back Frankie Abralon. Not sure S.O.D. starts bowling to win until late March.
L.O.S. (-1) vs Bingas: A serious game of the week contender. Putt Putt gets his rematch with Jerk after their Kingshit fianls. Precious will show that patterns are irrelevant if you throw hard enough. Garlic Jones is back, and Gutterboy is married. Just get a good seat on perv row and watch this one play out.
Sharks (-1) vs Pindecent: Sharks lost Abralon, but kept Ding Dong, and maybe added Roo? I’m not sure all the Pindecent changes but I think the lost Poo Bear. More Roo less Poo.
XXX Club (-3) vs Niner Expansion: The Club is as consistent as they come, and they do have a decent bowler named Buck. I don’t even know the real name for Niner’s team, but I believe he has Linus and Nugget?
Tuesday B
Game of the Week: Onggi (-1) vs Poultry Association: Fresh off an R&B League title Onggi moves their show to BoPo. You’ve seen them in draft league but now they get their own BoPo team to call their own. They open with a Poultry team that is always kind of a darkhorse contender. Iceberg (or was that Jon Mcenroll) leads them into battle with their Turkey hats. This will be a great party night for both teams but I think Onggi’s motivation will be the difference.
Other Matchups (not even going to try to break these down until next week when I find out who bowls where):
Strikes on Tap (-7) vs Whoomp
Bowling Stones (-1) vs N.E.D.
Bowl Pack (-3) vs BILF
Incredibowls (-3) vs Minds in the Gutter
Hookers (-1) vs Trolls
Wrecking Balls (-3) vs Burners
TOTY (-5) vs Big Daddies
